Americans are reading the label.
They don't like what they see.

More people are questioning the oils and fats they cook with every day. They want simple ingredients, clearer sourcing, and products they can trust in their kitchen.

The demand is here. The right everyday cooking fat is missing.

Questionable Cooking Oils

Canola, soybean, and vegetable oils dominate the aisle, even as more consumers look for cleaner alternatives.

Over-Processed Options

Many everyday fats are refined, blended, or processed far from their original source.

Imported Alternatives

Many traditional-style options are imported, making sourcing, freshness, and traceability harder to understand.

Unclear Labels

Words like "natural," "traditional," or "clean" are common, but the source and process are often hard to verify.

Not just for one kind of cooking. Built for everyday American kitchens.

Four things rarely found in one jar.

Some brands focus on organic ingredients. Some focus on tradition. Some focus on domestic sourcing. Great Prairie brings these priorities together in one clean-label cooking fat.

Organic Dairy Sourcing

Made with organic dairy sourced from local herds.

A2 Milk

Made with A2-sourced dairy, a premium choice many customers seek for a gentler-feeling dairy fat.

Bilona-Style Process

Inspired by traditional culturing, churning, and slow heating instead of shortcut clarification.

Midwest Dairy

Rooted in domestic sourcing and Midwest farm relationships.

The difference is in the process.

Most commercial ghee begins with bulk butter and moves quickly through clarification. Great Prairie starts earlier, with a slower Bilona-style approach inspired by traditional preparation.

Bilona-style means our process is inspired by the traditional sequence of culturing, churning, and gentle clarification, adapted for a modern, food-safe kitchen.

Why it matters: a slower process helps develop the rich aroma, deep golden color, and naturally grainy texture traditional ghee is known for.

A note from our founder

S

I grew up watching my mother make ghee traditionally, and it was a trusted kitchen staple in our home. But when I went looking for that nostalgic product in the American market, I saw a gap. No product existed that combined traditionally made ghee with quality ingredients.

I'm sure there are more consumers like me who want clean, simple, high-quality foods made using traditional techniques and minimal processing — but many options are either heavily processed, imported without transparency, or made using shortcuts.

Great Prairie is built to offer something better: a clean-label food brand rooted in tradition, domestic sourcing, and everyday usefulness.

Common questions

Ghee is clarified butter that has been slowly heated to remove water and milk solids, leaving behind golden butterfat with rich flavor and strong high-heat cooking performance.

Bilona-style ghee follows a slower process built around culturing, churning, and gentle heating. Instead of starting with bulk butter and moving quickly through industrial clarification, this approach is designed to create richer flavor, a naturally grainy texture, and a more intentional cooking fat.

The slower process helps create a richer aroma, a naturally grainy texture, and a more layered flavor than standard clarified butter. It is also valued for naturally occurring dairy-fat compounds such as butyrate, which people commonly associate with traditional ghee.

Great Prairie is built around a combination that is hard to find together: organic dairy sourcing, A2-sourced dairy, Bilona-style preparation, and Midwest sourcing.

No. Ghee works anywhere you use a cooking fat: eggs, vegetables, rice, toast, baking, roasting, sautéing, and finishing dishes. Great Prairie is built for everyday American kitchens.

Ghee is typically very low in lactose because milk solids are removed during clarification. Final product testing and labeling will guide the exact claim before launch.

We plan to start locally through farmers markets and specialty retail, then expand through Amazon, our website, and regional grocery partners.

Yes. Great Prairie is focused on domestic ghee production using Midwest-sourced dairy and a transparent farm-to-pantry supply chain.

Ghee is similar to clarified butter because both are made by removing water and milk solids from butter. Ghee is typically cooked longer, which creates a deeper golden color, richer aroma, and more developed flavor.

It means simple ingredients, transparent sourcing, and food made without unnecessary shortcuts.
